Starlink’s New Tech Might Just Make Calls and Texts Free for Everyone!

Imagine a world where you can make calls and send texts from anywhere, without needing a cell tower or even a SIM card. That’s exactly what Starlink’s new “Direct to Cell” service promises to do.

In 2025, SpaceX’s Starlink will launch its Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to provide global 4G mobile coverage. This means that as long as you have an LTE-enabled phone, you’ll be able to use this service. No need for special hardware, firmware updates, or extra apps—just your regular smartphone.

Popular devices like the iPhone 13, iPhone 14, Samsung Galaxy series, and Google Pixel phones are all expected to work seamlessly with this new technology.

Starlink says that if you can see the sky, you can connect. This is a game-changer, especially for people in remote areas who struggle with weak signals or don’t have access to traditional cell towers.

One of the biggest advantages of this technology is its potential to bridge the digital divide. Many people in far-flung provinces or mountainous regions don’t have reliable phone service. With Direct to Cell, they’ll be able to make calls and stay connected just like those in the city.

It’s also great news for overseas Filipino workers who want an easier way to stay in touch with their families without worrying about roaming fees or unreliable connections.

But that’s not all. Starlink has even bigger plans. By 2025, they aim to expand this technology to include mobile data and Internet of Things (IoT) services. This could mean free global internet access, which would be a huge leap toward a fully connected world. Imagine being able to access the web anytime, anywhere, without relying on a Wi-Fi hotspot or traditional network provider.

Currently, the Direct to Cell service is available in countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and a few others.

While Starlink already operates in the Philippines, there’s no official announcement yet on when Filipinos will get access to this new service. Hopefully, it will arrive soon, as it has the potential to revolutionize how we communicate and do business.
